Breaking News – 6.3 Earthquake Hits New Zealand
A devastating 6.3 magnitude earthquake has struck the New Zealand city of Christchurch resulting in reported fatalities.
The earthquake hit during the lunchtime rush hour about 6 miles south east of the city. The destruction caused appears to be far worse than the last earthquake that occurred in the area back in September.
Although it was less powerful, it occurred much closer to the surface and happened when the business district was packed with people.
The main quake lasted for about 20 seconds and has since been followed by strong aftershocks causing already unstable structures to fall.
Communications have been hit hard and fires are breaking out in buildings causing further problems for the rescuers trying to reach those trapped inside.
