Chinese New Year 2011 – The Year of the Rabbit
The 3rd February 2011 is the Chinese New Year and celebrations are happening in Chinese communities across the world.
The Chinese zodiac has been in use for at least 3500 years and marks the start of Spring, normally falling on the 2nd new moon after the Winter Solstice.
It is different from the western zodiac in that it is based on a 12 year cycle, with each year being represented by a different animal. Many Chinese believe that the year that you are born in helps to shape your life.
This year marks the Year of the Rabbit and if you are born at this time, the Chinese believe that you will have a calm and gentle nature.
They are said to be persistent, charismatic, cautious and trustworthy. Often people born in the Year of the Rabbit turn out to be artistic, although on the negative side it is said that they can be cowardly.
Some famous people who were born under the Year of the Rabbit include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, David Beckham, Johnny Depp and Albert Einstein.
Happy New Year to everyone of our Chinese friends.
