FIFA Elect Sepp Blatter Again.. Surprised?
FIFA have re-elected Sepp Blatter for another 4 years as the 75 year old is the only participant in the FIFA Presidential election.
Blatters only rival in the election was Mohamed Bin Hammam, he withdrew after coming under investigation for alleged corruption. Blatter was cleared by the same committee.
The English FA chairman, David Bernstein, took to the stage before the vote to try to persuade the members that the election should be postponed until the corruption allegations were investigated.
A trail of other FIFA delegates then proceeded to attack the English and it’s media for “lies” and “allegations” against the FIFA family, ignoring the fact that it was FIFA member Chuck Blazer who reported Jack Warner and Bin Hammam.
Although FIFA has seemingly closed ranks around Blatter who seems to have an iron grip over the delegates, there are external pressures that they will not be able to ignore.
FIFA are headquartered in Switzerland and the government there has already suggested that they would not be welcome if they did not address the issues at their door.
Perhaps even more powerful are the sponsors. The top few FIFA sponsors such as Addidas represent a very large slice of the FIFA income and they are starting to make noises. Perhaps, ultimately, it will be money that talks once again.
