Sebastian Vettel Wins a Race & Takes The 2010 Formula One Title
Sebastian Vettel cruised to the 2010 Formula One Title in a race that was dominated by pitstops and strategy.
The 23 year old became the youngest Formula One champion in it’s history as he crossed the line ahead of Lewis Hamilton and 3rd place Jenson Button.
With Red Bull already claiming the constructors championship the Mclaren drivers pulled out the stops to secure 2nd place ahead of arch rivals Ferrari.
Ferrari were seemingly in control of the championship before the race needing to secure 1st or 2nd place to automatically win the F1 title for a 3rd time. If Vettel won then Alsono only needed to come in the top 5.
Alonso started in third but lost out to a superb start by Jenson Button to drop down to fourth but managed to keep his main rival Webber behind him.
A collision between Michael Schumacher and Vitantonio Liuzzi, that ended with Schumacher having a car parked on top of his, meant that the safety car had to be deployed.
Tactical pit stops then decided the title as both Webber and Alonso pitted early and then got stuck in traffic that saw them both trailing way down the field unable to get past the middle order.
This allowed Vettel to extend his lead with a clear track ahead of him, he managed to build up such an advantage that he pitted and still managed to get out ahead of Hamilton and maintain 1st place when Button came in to pit.
As the race came to it’s conclusion, Vettel was still driving with a coolness that his compatriot Schumacher would have been proud of, still setting fastest laps to win his 5th race of the season.
