Over 1 Billion People Watch India Vs Pakistan Cricket World Cup Semi-Final

It’s estimated that over 1 billion people tuned in to watch India beat Pakistan in the 2011 Cricket World Cup semi final.

Proving that sport can sometimes reach places nothing else seems to be able to, both the Indian and Pakistan Prime Ministers attending the match together after 3 years of frozen relations following the Mumbai shootings where 174 people died.

The Cricket World Cup 2011 is being hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka and this semi-final match, played in the Indian city of Mohali, didn’t disappoint the huge audience.

Sachin Tendulkar, one of the all time great batsman, was again the center of attention as he knocked up 85 runs but had a dismissal overturned and was dropped four, yes, four times, by Pakistan as India eventually beat them by 29 runs to reach the Cricket World Cup final in Mumbai.

The final will be held on Saturday 2nd April and to add additional spice, if it were needed, an Indian model, Poonam Pandey, has courted controversy in her home country by promising to strip if India win the World Cup. Capturing attention much like the Peruvian model, Larissa Riquelme did at the Football World Cup in South Africa last year.
