Tucson, Arizona Shooting – Latest Update

After undergoing surgery Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head, is said to be responding well and is able to understand simple commands. The news is relief for the community who feared she would lose her life, there is only a 5% survival rate from such injuries and Gabrielle Giffords is still in a critical condition.

It has also been confirmed that 20 people were injured in the incident and 6 people have lost their lives. This includes a 9 year old girl, Christina-Taylor Green and Judge John Roll.

An second individual, who was earlier said to have been implicated in the incident, is now not believed to have been directly involved but is still being hunted in order to clarify any involvement.

It is now believed that the gunman was acting alone.

The FBI has confirmed that they have a 22 year old man accused of being the gunman, Jared Loughner, in custody and they expect that formal charges will be filed on Sunday.

Jared Lee Loughner is said to be a loner with an unstable personality and a troubled past. It has also come to light that Loughner applied to the US Army but was declined for unspecified reasons and that he was asked to take a mental stability test after he was kicked out of his school.
