Oprah Launches her Own TV Channel
The New Year has brought the launch of a new TV network, nothing original about that I hear you say, but this one could be different.
The network is the creation of one of the biggest names in world of TV, Oprah Winfrey.
After hosting the Oprah Winfrey show on American television for 25 years, Oprah has built up a huge following around the globe and with that has become one of the most influential broadcasters in history.
This popularity and influence has also generated wealth in the hundreds of millions and has enabled Oprah to take her TV ventures into a whole new level. The cost of the new channel, OWN TV, has reportedly reached $189 million.
Aimed mainly at women, who made up the core audience of the original Oprah Winfrey show, the new network will concentrate on self improvement and empowerment with presenters such as Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Other shows include a reality programme with Sarah Ferguson and the singer Shania Twain will also have her own show called “Why Not?”
