The World Welcomes in 2011 with New Years Celebrations
The major cities of the world welcomed the New Year with fireworks and street celebrations.
The first major cities to usher in the new year were Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. Sydney put on their usual magnificent display from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and in Auckland fireworks emerged from the tallest tower on the island.

There were also spectacular displays in the far east before the time zone moved West into Europe.
In London there was a huge firework display on the River Thames with fireworks shooting out from the London Eye in spectacular fashion. At one point onlookers said that they couldn’t see any sky because of the amount of fireworks exploding at the same time.
An estimated 250,000 people were on the River bank to see the London display.
The New Year celebrations then crossed the Atlantic over to North America and the sunnier climes of South America.
