Tron 2.0 Legacy Lights its Way to Box Office Success
Tron Legacy went straight to the top of the US box office on it’s opening weekend as it grossed $43.6 million.
The sequel to the 1982 film is reported to have cost $170 million to produce, but the strong opening weekend will lift hopes that it will make well in excess of it’s budget.
Based around the idea of virtual reality known as the ‘Grid’, Director Joseph Kosinski called the film “a true 3D movie” with Jeff Bridges reprising his role from the original film. He also gets to flex acting muscles to play himself at age 35 and 60 using the latest digital techniques.
The music score has also been a talking point with electronic music masters Daft Punk realising their futuristic score, receiving just as much acclaim as the film itself.
