Dominique Strauss-Kahn Resigns From IMF

Dominique Strauss-Kahn (DSK) has informed the IMF (International Monetary Fund) that he is resigning with immediate effect from his position as Managing Director.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn (or DSK as he is also known) said in his letter of resignation that,

“I want to protect this institution which I have served with honor and devotion, and especially —especially— I want to devote all my strength, all my time, and all my energy to proving my innocence.”

He again re-iterated his denial against the allegations that have been brought against him.

The IMF will continue for the moment with John Lipsky as the acting Managing Director while they move through the selection process of choosing a new MD.

Traditionally the position has been dominated by the old monetary powers of Europe but with a weather change shift in the economies of the world, it will be interesting if the new money economies can stake a claim to the position.

Europe will be unlikely have as much control as it has done in the past with China already asserting itself with some well aimed comments. Markets have reacted nervously to the potential loss of European influence.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is now officially facing charges in New York of sexual abuse, unlawful imprisonment, attempted rape and committing a criminal sexual act.

He has so far had his bail application denied for fear of him attempting to leave the country, but is due to apply for bail again today. He is currently being held in custody at the notorious Rikers Island prison.
